Dr. Kamal Laksiri elected Governor of ASCE

Dr. Kamal Laksiri, Fellow of the Institution of Engineers Sri Lanka, has been elected as a Governor of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE), US, for the term 2021 to 2024, in the recently concluded 2021 elections. He is the first Sri Lankan engineer to get elected as a Governor in ASCE.

Dr. Laksiri, Fellow of ASCE, contested the post of Governor, Region 10 of the ASCE in this year election which ran from May 1 to June 1 among all the members worldwide, the newly elected governor said in a media release.

ASCE, established in 1852, is one of the oldest professional engineering bodies in the world with more than 150,000 members in the US and the rest of the world. It comprises nine regions representing members in North America and one region, i.e. Region 10 representing members who reside outside the US, Canada, and Mexico.

Dr. Laksiri is the President of the Sri Lanka International Group of ASCE, representing the members residing in Sri Lanka.

Currently he is attached to the Ceylon Electricity Board as the Project Director of the Broadlands Hydropower Project, a national power project which is scheduled to be commissioned this year. He was a Vice President of the Institution of Engineers Sri Lanka (IESL) and a Past President of Association of Consulting Engineers Sri Lanka (ACESL).
