Unique quiz to commemorate and unify healthcare staff

Simplicity was the keynote of the just-concluded 134th Anniversary International Medical Congress 2021 of the Sri Lanka Medical Association (SLMA).

SLMA President Dr. Padma Gunaratne said with much pride in her team that without fanfare or large expenditure they held the congress with laudable numbers attending all the online sessions. The theme was ‘Professional excellence towards holistic healthcare’.

Not only to ‘commemorate’ but also to ‘unify’ healthcare workers from all disciplines in these troubled times of COVID-19, the SLMA had come up with the novel idea of holding the inaugural

General Knowledge Quiz 2021.

Twenty one ‘mixed’ teams from across the country had battled to secure the beautiful ‘Multidisciplinary Challenge Trophy’ in a virtual quiz conducted by Dr. Dakshitha Wickramasinghe on September 19.

The winning team comprised Dr. Sanjeewa Wijekoon (Sri Jayewardenepura Faculty of Medical Sciences), Dr. Harsha Gamage (Karapitiya Teaching Hospital) & Dr. Shiran Paranavitane (National Hospital of Sri Lanka – NHSL).

Meanwhile, Dr. Prasanna Dilshan (Karapitiya Teaching Hospital) and Dr. Priyantha Jayawardana, Occupational Therapist Pubudu Abeynayaka & Physiotherapist Asela Gunawardana (all from the Matara District General Hospital) came second and Dr. W.D. Sudasinghe, Dr. C.M.

Manawadu & Dr. N.N.D. Dharmarathne (attached to the Health Miniatry) came third.
