Fading beat

Broken and bruised Over years of abuse Lifted up, let down Passed all around

Cast aside, let go Taken blow after blow A wonder it’s still beating Or is it just pretending

To go through the motions Without causing a commotion It’s better that way Who’d miss it anyway

Nonetheless it keeps beating Shamelessly hoping There’d be a second chance At love and romance

Wishful thinking it would seem

But a poet could always dream Before it’s time to depart Maybe someone would jump- start my heart
