Trincomalee youth introduced to Beach Korfball

Korfball Sri Lanka in its endeavour to promote the sport in all parts of the country, introduced the game to the youth at the Beach Park in Trincomalee, through a orientation training programme held last week.

With much enthusiasm among the youth to attend the programme, the organisers were compelled to limit participation to 50 in keeping with health guidelines.

The introduction programme was conducted in Trincomalee by a team headed by Pushpakumara Madurapperuma, the Secretary of Korfball Sri Lanka, while former physiotherapist of the Under-23 national team of Netherlands, Jose Van Nunspeet, who introduced the game to Sri Lanka in 2013, attended as the guest of honour.

is played by two teams of eight players comprising of four females and four males in each team. The objective is to throw the ball through a bottomless basket that is mounted on a 3.5 metres high pole. It is a contactless and fast game, as unlike

netball or basketball one has to shoot before being defended.
