Sunday Times E-Paper

An impending, certain disaster

There was an incident reported in the newspapers of a hand grenade found in a church. Fortunately, it was discovered before terrible damage was caused.

So, we were lucky this time. Next time? There will certainly be a next time.

When a man is prepared to give his life in order to do something, there is very little one can do to prevent it. The Christchurch massacre, Easter carnage etc bear testimony to this grim reality.

As such, the only avenue left to prevent this kind of tragedy is to remove the cause of this action. There is no choice!

Please note that the bomb was placed inside in a church in both instances. This means the target was the church and not the people.

The question arises as to whether a church or going to a church is an absolute necessity.

Consider the statement of Jesus, “First find the Kingdom of Heaven within you…” This univocally confirms that the Kingdom of Heaven is “within you”.

So, I ask, what is the purpose of going to church and as such what is the necessity of a church?

Finally, I appeal to the authorities, please consider this appeal (just for the record, I made the same appeal in the national newspapers before the Easter tragedy) and act before it is too late.

As a follow-up, as I suggested some time ago, if we can convert all the churches into welfare centres for the ill and the helpless, Jesus Himself will be the first to bless such an action.

Am I asking for the moon?
