Gayle tops the UK singles chart

Gayle, the 17-year-old Dallas,

Texas-born artist has topped the UK singles chart with her break-up song

‘Abcdefu’. The pop punk song climbed a single notch to end Adele’s reign on the chart. Gayle had released

‘Abcdefu’ back in August 2021 but it was after it went viral on TikTok that it got the attention to make it to the charts across the world.

In the UK the song made its entry at

40 nine weeks ago and then jumped to

12 before entering the top 10 at No: 2. In

December, it was affected by the surge of Christmas songs until normalcy swept it back to the No: 2 position again. This week with over 4.5 million streams ‘Abcdefu’ became the UK chart topping song. The song is co-penned by Gayle under her real name Taylor Rutherford with Sara Davis and David Pittenger.

Gayle is one of many youngsters who have had a No: 1 song in the UK. In the 70-year history of the chart, the youngest artist to have scored a No: 1 song is Jimmy Osmond with ‘Long Haired Lover From Liverpool’ in December 1972.
