Consecration of Sri Parameswaran Temple on July 6

The consecration ceremony of the Sri Parameswaran Temple of the University of Jaffna is to take place on July 6.

Sri Parameswaran Temple was first consecrated by Sir Ponnambalam Ramanthan as a prayer hall of the then Parameswara College in 1928. It has now become the centre of the University of Jaffna’s main campus near Kailasapathy Auditorium.

“It is a place of worship where devotees including members of the university community gather to think of God, contemplate on the miracles he performs and worship him. It is a divine centre with astonishing powers. At this great kshetram, punaravarthana kumbhabhishekam for all devatha murthies and the Gopura will take place on July 6 under the blessings and guidance of Lord Siva,” a spokesperson from the Vice Chancellor’s media unit said.

As a preparatory step for the mahakumbhabhishekam, a balalayam was set up in year 2016. The idols, buildings, the temple gopura were inspected, painted and repaired and the entire renovation and re-consecration of the temple has progressed well with the support of devotees under the guidance of leading priests.
