Resilient supply chains for economic challenges in the next normal

The much- anticipated “KDU Logistics Day 2022” of General Sir John Kot e l awala Defence University (KDU), organised by the Te c h n i c a l Sciences and Management Society of the Department of Management and Finance ( TSMS), Faculty of Management, Social Sciences and Humanities, was ceremonially conducted on the 1st of June 2022 at Faculty of Graduate Studies Auditorium, KDU.

Despite the challenges faced due to the COVID-19 pandemic and the current economic crisis in the country, TSMS was able to successfully conduct the KDU Logistics Day 2022 as a physical event. Most importantly, with the dedication of the organising team led by President Udul Kalapuge and supported by Vice Presidents Malmi Weerakkody and Roshel Perera, Secretary Lihini Seneviratne and Treasurer Hiruni Yapa, the society was able to raise the bar for the event by making “KDU Logistics Day 2022” one of the most successful Logistics Day events at KDU.

This event centered on the timely and important theme of ‘Resilient Supply Chains for Economic Challenges in the Next Normal’ was graced by the Chief Guest Major General Milinda Peiris RWP RSP VSV USP ndc psc Mphil, ViceChancellor of General Sir John Kotelawala Defence University, the Guest of Honour Ms. Sujani Kumarasighe, Head of Customer Experience at Maersk Lanka (Pvt.) Ltd and many other distinguished invitees from the industry, representatives of Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport-Sri Lanka, academia and university students.

After the addresses by the Head of Department, Department of Management and Finance, Dr. Wasantha Premarathne, the Dean of the Faculty, Faculty of Management, Social Sciences and Humanities, Mr. K i t h s i r i Amaratunga and the ViceChancellor Major General Milinda Peiris, the guest speaker Ms. Gayathri Karunanayake, Supply Chain Consultant at Logicare (Pvt) Ltd, shared her valuable knowledge and expertise with the audience followed by the keynote address delivered by Mr. Chintaka de Zoysa, Director of a subsidiary company of Hayleys Advantis Group sharing invaluable experience regarding industrial changes.

The grand launching ceremony of the “Logistics Times: 7th

Edition,” Sri Lanka’s first- ever Logistics Magazine, was also held at this occasion, thanks to the tireless efforts of Editor Kalpa Chathubhashini, Co- Editor Niroshini Karunaratne, and the entire editorial committee.

The panel discussion moderated by Prof. Dinesh Samarasighe from the University of Moratuwa with the top professionals in the industry including Mr. Ibrahim Saleem from Hayleys Advantis Ltd, Mr. Sathiyenthra Panchadcharam from Nestle Lanka PLC and Ms. Dhashma Karunaratne from Aitken Spence Maritime & Freight Logistics Cluster added tremendous value to the entire event and provided invaluable insights to the audience.

The panel discussion was followed by the awards distribution for the winners of the Logistics Times Article Competition 2022 under the undergraduate and post graduate categories, and the selection of winners had been done through a standard evaluation process. The competition had been open for various universities and industry professionals as well.

The Logistics Day 2022 of KDU was enriched with glamourous dancing and singing items that showcased the aesthetic talents of

KDU students, and this significant three- hour event was concluded with the vote of thanks delivered by Udul Kalapuge, the President of the Te ch n i c a l Sciences and Management Society and Chairperson of KDU Logistics Day 2022, where he expressed his heartfelt gratitude to everyone who supported for the success of the event in diverse ways.

The “KDU Logistics Day 2022” thus ended as a monumental success marking another highlight in the university’s calendar.
