Awareness programme on the Parliamentary process and procedures held at Ananda College

An awareness programme on the Parliamentary process and procedures was held recently at the Centenary Hall of Ananda College in Colombo 10.

The primary objective of this programme was to promote the knowledge of political science for A/L students of Ananda College, and resources were facilitated by senior officials of the Sri Lankan Parliament.

Organised by students of the Political Science Association of Ananda College, the members of the student parliament and students from invited schools participated in this programme.

Kushani Rohanadheera, the Chief of Staff and Deputy Secretary General of the Sri Lankan Parliament, shared her decades of Parliamentary service experience with the student community through a concise approach on democracy and parliament.

Tikiri K. Jayathilake, Assistant General Secretary of the Sri Lankan Parliament, addressed the gathering under the topic of “Parliamentary committees and the contribution of the future citizen,” and Director of Legislative Services H. E. Janakantha Silva addressed the audience on the topic “introduction to the Legislative Process.”

This special awareness programme was another phase in a series of awareness programmes carried out continuously over the past few years by the Public Outreach Division of the Parliament’s Communication Department.

To improve awareness regarding the process of the Parliament, a programme could be facilitated or could be conducted online. Arrangements could be made for such programmes by contacting the Public Outreach Division.
