The only farm animal and equine hospital in the country, which took seven years to build at an estimated cost of Rs 85 million funded by the University Grants Commission, was declared open by Professor M D Lamawansa, Vice Chancellor University of Peradeniya, at the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine. The hospital is constructed along the lines of animal hospitals in New Zealand and Australia.

The new hospital provided an opportunity, he added, for graduates and post-graduate students to improve their work in the field of veterinary medicine.
