SLIIT Startups triumphant at NBQSA 2022 winning coveted overall Silver and Bronze Awards competing in commerc

Heralding a remarkable milestone, SLIIT Startups Eduscope and Digital Pulz bagged overall Silver and Bronze awards in addition to category accolades competing against commercial organizations at the NBQSA 2022 – The National ICT Awards held recently.

Importantly, it is the first-ever instance that SLIIT Startups participated in the prestigious awards and competed under commercial categories.

Held for the 24th consecutive year, NBQSA Awards recognize the best ICT innovations with a view to uplift the ICT industry, rewarding software products developed by University students and corporates.

Throughout the years, SLIIT has continued to showcase pioneering projects and achieved multiple awards. At NBQSA 2022, Eduscope (Pvt) Limited, a startup at the SLIIT’s Sri Lanka Technology Incubator (SLTI) won the overall Silver Award and also the Gold Award in the category of Education.

Another SLIIT SLTI Startup clinching glory was Digital Pulz (Pvt.) Ltd. The company won the overall Bronze award and Gold under the Health and Wellbeing category.

Additionally, SLIIT won two projects submitted under the undergraduate and postgraduate categories. Team VisCon received the Merit Award in the Tertiary

Student Technology Category, and The Virtual Classroom received a Merit Award in the Postgraduate Category.

Dr. Malitha Wijesundara, Dean, Faculty of Humanities & Sciences of SLIIT, who is also the founder of Eduscope, stated “Competing and winning at the NBQSA 2022 under the commercial category is an extremely significant achievement as SLIIT startups secured the prestigious overall Silver and Bronze awards among more than 400 products across 40 categories.”

Eduscope won for its Unified Media Station (UMS-4) product, designed and manufactured by the company. Featuring multi-camera lecture capture, concurrent delivery, the product also offers playback, bookmarking and a host of other innovative capabilities. During Covid, Eduscope’s Lecture Capture solution ensured SLIIT students had uninterrupted access to lectures. To date the Eduscope Lecture Capture solution has reached 6.2 million views from 41,000 lectures hosted via the system.

Currently, the product offers an immersive classroom experience for multi-center delivery in a number of higher education institutes including the ESOFT Metro Campus, IIHS, the Nagananda Centre of Buddhist Studies, etc.

Digital Pulz bagged Bronze for its highquality software solution for the Healthcare Industry supporting the automation process inside clinics and hospitals in addition to veterinary hospitals, vet clinics etc.

Prof. Koliya Pulasinghe added, “Digital Pulz focused on developing innovative solutions to some of the key challenges facing the healthcare sector. The software keeps records of patients, provides online consultation features, lodges confidential healthcare records, can be integrated with various healthcare protocols enabling the consultant or physician having access to all necessary information.”

SLIIT’s Merit Award winner of the postgraduate category, MSc student Mr. Yasith Wickramasinghe who developed the ‘Virtual Classroom’, which helps overcome challenges of remote and distant education. Based on a concept of gamifying education, the solution uses 3D designing technology and software engineering. Teachers and students’ login to a virtual classroom complete with reading/audio visual material, models etc., to navigate within a 3D space in an interactive manner
