Booker Prize winner Shehan Karunatilaka at Lakmahal

The Lakmahal Community Library in Colombo will be hosting “An evening with Shehan Karunatilaka” on February 9 from 6-8 p.m., where the author will talk about his Booker Prize winning novel The Seven Moons of Maali Almeida with fellow writer and publisher, Ameena Hussein. He will talk about his writing process, the motivation for writing this book, and how the earlier edition Chats with the Dead evolved to become the 2022 Booker Prize winning book.

The Lakmahal Community Library was opened in January 2022 to encourage people to engage with the creative arts. With a collection of 2500 books spanning several genres, the library hopes to encourage people to expand their reading horizons through access to a wide variety of literature. In addition to offering quarterly and annual memberships, the library regularly hosts events to inspire creativity through community interaction and practice, such as poetry clubs, book clubs and writing workshops. The library is also rented out for external events such as book launches, discussions and private functions.
