Maria Montessori

Maria Montessori ( 1870 - 1952 ) was an Italian educator responsible for creating the Montessori system of education, which is based upon the view that each child should be treated as an individual, that they have an innate curiosity to learn and that they have a lot of creative potential.

She was the First woman to graduate in medicine from the University of Rome, after which she took an interest in the educational problems of children with learning difficulties. +er teaching methods proved successful when applied to children of normal intelligence and resulted in the opening of many Montessori schools around the world.
