SC halts exams to recruit graduates in public service to Teachers’ Service

The Examinations Department has delayed the decision to hold competitive exams to recruit graduates in the public service to Sri Lanka Teachers’ Service following a Supreme Court order.

Examinations Department Commissioner General Amith Jayasundare said the examination which was to be held islandwide yesterday, will not be held as scheduled, as ordered by the Supreme Court.

He added that a new date for the examination will be notified in due course.

In January, the Education Ministry called for applications to the competitive examination to recruit graduates in the public service to the Sri Lanka Teachers’ Service for Sinhala, Tamil, and English medium teacher vacancies in national and provincial schools in the country.

Graduates entitled to contributory pensions or contributing to Employees Provident Fund/Employees Trust Fund, or not holding permanent appointments in the public service such as Pririvena teachers, private school teachers, and graduates employed in the semigovernment sector were told not to apply for this competitive examination.
