Students who allegedly assaulted teacher released on bail with conditions

Twenty-one students in Puttalam who were arrested on charges of assaulting the Teacher-in-Charge of Discipline at their school were granted bail under strict conditions on Friday (26).

The Puttalam Magistrate’s Court released the suspects on personal bails of Rs 500, 000 each. The magistrate ordered them to appear at the Puttalam Police Station between 8 am and 12 noon every Sunday.

The court also ordered the suspects not to attempt to pressurise the complainant, and warned that they would be remanded for breaching their bail conditions if they did so.

The students had allegedly assaulted the Teacher-inCharge of Discipline at the school on Tuesday (23) after the victim instructed the students to come to the school after properly shaving and cutting their hair.

The suspects were subsequently arrested by several Police teams deployed to probe the incident.
