There were issues initially, but when you carefully look at it all players that have been drafted into these five teams are those with central contracts. Firstly these players have earned contracts, because they are good enough to get one.

The NSL has given priority to them. In some cases one may question that there are more players from one club and certain deserving players have not got the opportunity. The purpose of this competition is to test the contracted players and as it moves issues that come along the way can be addressed. I see that the beginning of NSL has justified the contracted players, because all of them have been given opportunities.

On the other hand, the clustering that was done initially was not fair on the players. We cannot look for other options with the number of clubs at premier level. It's way too high. If the number can be brought down to 10, with teams from Kandy, Galle and Kurunegala appearing in the premier tournament, then there will not be any need for a competition of this sort. Those three regions have the facilities other than Colombo, from where eventually all clubs end up at premier level.

In my honest opinion this is fair because it has justified the efforts of contracted players.
